Communities In Schools of Virginia Scholarship
Advancing Equity, Igniting Potential
Communities In Schools of Virginia helps ensure that every student, regardless of race, gender, ability, zip code, or socioeconomic background has what they need to realize their full potential in school and beyond.
Working directly inside 100 schools across Virginia, we walk by their side, in their communities, to challenge the systems and barriers that stand between them and their success in life.
By surrounding them with a network of trust they can turn to no matter where they are in their journey, we empower students to confront and overcome personal challenges and structural barriers—so they can take charge of the future they want for themselves, their communities and each other.
The CIS-VA Scholarship aims to increase access to educational opportunities for students from Virginia high schools with a Communities In Schools presence. This will be awarded to two (2) promising students who meet the following criteria:
- Currently in their senior year of high school and accepted to an accredited college for the fall of 2021, or with established plans to attend an accredited community college in fall of 2021
- Demonstrates strong work ethic
- Preference will be given to first-generation college students.
In addition to your application, please provide:
- A personal statement sharing how CIS has contributed to your academic and career goals
- A letter of recommendation, preferably from a CIS site coordinator.
